Now that E3 is behind us and a crazy busy week of news, reviews, previews, and other stuff, it’s time to get back to business and back into the depths of PlayStation Network! This week on the Digital Delivery, instead of taking a look at games that are coming to PSN, let’s take a look at a pair of games you can already get on PSN. In fact, how about we look at a couple of games that are free right now for PlayStation Plus members?
Now that Sony has decided that Plus subscribers will get two free games on every console each month, let’s see what the value looks like this time around. We’re going to look at a PS4 and PS Vita game – PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate for PS4 and Mutant Mudds Deluxe for PS Vita. And remember, if you want to get these games, pick them up before July 1st when they’ll no longer be totally free!
PIXELJUNK SHOOTER ULTIMATE
Available Now (PS4)
PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is the, well, ultimate version of PixelJunk Shooter which came out for PS3 in 2009. PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate takes the first and second games (the second aptly titled PixelJunk Shooter 2) and combines them into a cross-buy game which is also available on PS Vita. The game essentially puts you (and possibly a friend) in control of a subterranean vehicle to destroy enemies, the environment, and rescue scientists that are trapped underground. Additionally, players will have to deal with rock, ice, water, magma, and a magnetic black liquid in their efforts to save the day.
But, what makes this game so much better than the PS3 counterparts? Well, the obvious bits – it’s prettier. Improved graphics, 60 FPS, and even the main ship has been remodeled in 3D for the port to PS4 and Vita. The features from Shooter 2 have also been incorporated into the first game, the HUD has been shrunken down, and the setup also includes and cross-save compatibility. All perks to owning it on both platforms, and it’s a delightfully fun and challenging game. But don’t let the scientists die!
MUTANT MUDDS DELUXE

Platformers! Wooo! The standard of gaming, and Mutant Mudds takes the concept and tweaks it slightly to deliver something unique. You play as Max, whose video game session is suddenly interrupted by a meteor strike. It’s revealed that the meteor strike has caused the invasion of the Mutant Mudds, which you’re thrust into the role of overcoming. With your water gun and jetpack, you set off to defeat the Mudds and find the legendary Water Sprites to stop the invasion for good.
While the game is a traditional platformer in many cases, one of the unique elements about it allows you to hop between the background and foreground of the side-scrolling stages. The game is split into 4 separate worlds in which you must clear the three objectives of each, the main one being to collect the Water Sprite at the end of each world. Additionally, you can collect golden diamonds (yeah, golden diamonds) and seek out and complete the secret levels within each stage.
The game is fairly straightforward in concept, however, and gives you unlimited ammo and three hearts to serve as your life. Lose your hearts, lose a life. Collect diamonds to unlock upgrades for your jetpack or gun, and fight your way to victory!
So break out the PS4 and PS Vita, download this pair of fun and simple games, and just have a whole buncha fun for free – so long as you’re a PS Plus member. You know you want to! Until next week’s Digital Delivery, stay classy, San Diego.
