Here is the story.
I have a beautiful female friend. She is a hard-working mother of 5 gorgeous children. She is a great woman and one of the kindest people I know. One of her five children is a little boy with cerebral palsy she adopted. I met her at my old job where she was giving plasma to get enough money to feed her children.
She is divorced. Did everything right the way people claim women should. Was married to her husband for 13 years. Found out he cheated and she divorced. He remarried the woman he cheated on her with and did not pay anything while they were together which is also part of the reason why she divorced him. All of his money was going towards the other woman and not to his own children. Since divorcing him over 2 years, he has quit several jobs to avoid child support. She has been raising the four amazing boys and one daughter on her own.
But this isn't her story. Her oldest son who is adopted has cerebral palsy. Unfortunately he goes to a horrible school where he was targeted for bullying b/c of his limp. Gang affiliated students would choose him as an easy target to jump after school for gang initiations. It got so bad that he attempted suicide two years ago.
She petitioned the school to move him, or do something about it and it continued. He was jumped on a schoolbus a year ago resulting in having to be rushed to the hospital. He was suspended from school even though he was merely defending himself. When the mother confronted the school district, they said he should have tried to jump off the bus to avoid the fight. Jump. Off. A. Moving. Vehicle. They continued to do nothing.
Even with internet proof of violent threats made against him and continued assaults, they did nothing. Two months ago, he went to school with a gun b/c the gang members had threatened to beat him after school. He was expelled from school and has charges pending. He is 17 and they are trying to charge him as an adult and will not allow him to finish his education even through distant learning.
Today, the police arrived at his house and entered without a warrant to interrogate him while he was home with his siblings and his mother was at work. He was scared and did not think to ask for an attorney. They took him to the police station and interrogated him for 4 hours. They accused him of being involved in a robbery that happened at his job a couple of nights ago during his shift at a local fast food restaurant. He was working that night. The attorney she is working with told her that b/c her case is so good to sue the school district, they are trying to trump up charges on him to make him seem like a problem.
Currently she needs $5000 to proceed. I've never raised money before, but I told her I would help however I could. If anyone wants to donate or provide any advice, I'm all ears. I have asked her if I can share this story here. His name is Michael. He is one of the sweetest young black 18 year boys you will ever meet and also one of the bravest. Please advise.
