1) lock him up forever
2) find out how this was allowed, if he did it others are doing it too
3) do not give him the death penalty
4) no violence or physical pain should be inflicted on him

everyone is saying give him the death penalty, and one person even said broadcast it on TV

TLR often says in relationship threads that women are ruled by emotion, unlike men.
What happened to that?

If you kill him and broadcast it, or even just kill him that will increase society's level of sadism.
that's number one, and secondly you are empowering govt too much.
no govt should be entrusted with a license to kill it's citizens

I never understood why this argument is brought up by opponents of the death penalty. Why is the power to kill considered the 3rd rail of governmental abuse of power? And how is granting them the power to imprison people for eternity anything but a marginal difference in the scope of authority?

The death penalty is the chicken and egg question.
what came first, the chicken or the egg?
what came first an authoritarian government with too much control over it's citizens or the people giving this government insane amounts of power like the death penalty.

This is the chicken and egg question
What that said, I understand what you say and agree somewhat.
I am completely against solitary confinement, that is torture, being kept in a room alone with a light bulb that keeps flickering on purpose.

But if imprisonment for violent crimes is too much then you tell me, where do we draw the line in the sand?
What is an acceptable punishment?
You say what's the diff between death penalty and life inprisonment, I get that. But when people say that, they never have an alternative. Do you?

Don't know how to phrase this without coming off as insensitive but anyone that's ever worked/traveled through South East Asia (SEA) should know this isn't new.

Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam etc. Those are hot spots for a lot of Western perverts. I had a summer internship in SEA when I was in college and some of the stuff you see and hear is just gross. It's one thing to go over seas to engage in of age debauchery (cheap drinks, good value accommodations, easier women etc) but some of these dudes took things to a whole different level.

I think you may have mistakenly assumed I was against the death penalty. I'm not.

I dont think prison for violent crimes is too much power.

Nor do I think the death penalty is too much power for a government to have.

My initial post was questioning the reason why abolitionists of the death penalty cite life in prison as being some sort of humanitarian compromise or a check on governmental power.

I grapple with the question of which crimes should be considered punishable by death, but not whether or not the penalty of death is a suitable punishment for someone in the first place.

Or Jewish. Shyt. . . more so, if!
So a catholic and a jew walk into a restaurant
They are seated at a table right next to the window
A little boy passes by and is about to cross the street
But he notices his shoes are untied, so he bends down to tie his shoelaces
The catholic notices this and says "man I would really love screw that kid"
And the jew responds "ya ya i'm in, but out of what?"
