I watched this a couple of weeks ago. I don't understand Pennywise's goal in the movie. It seemed like he was playing with them and not killing them when he could have.

They kind of overdid it in the movie. In the book he thrives on fear and belief like Freddy Krueger. Not believing in him doesn’t make him any less deadly (the movie made him shrink cause I guess they didn’t want to go the “cosmic spider that appears as a galactic silhouette because our brains can’t comprehend his true form” route). Edit: I almost forgot that it’s easier for “penny wise” to scare and influence kids so he needed to scare and weaken them as adults so it could have them right where it wants them.

He uses fear as seasoning before he eats us mind, body, and soul. It would been better as high budget series on HBO or just one really long movie with 15 min interludes. I was happy with it overall. It could have been a lot worse. I hope they do Salem’s lot justice, one day.
