From everything I read and watched, Japan might have the best society

Crime is very low there. Great place to visit or live.
Recovering decades after a nuclear bombing, enforced social conformity and low gun ownership rates/strict gun ownership laws tend to do that. duh.

“Unlike the U.S., Japan has strict gun laws. Most guns are illegal, and there are tight restrictions on purchasing the few firearms that are allowed in the country, according to The Atlantic. Japan also has a rigorous testing and background-check process for those who seek to purchase a gun.”

Travel yes! Live? Only if I had stable income for myself. The work culture there is crazy. Your expected not to leave work before your boss and sometimes mandatory happy hour after. They say corporate is a 7-11 affair :francis:

While they like tourists, they are extremely xenophobic. The attribute their society to thier “Japaneseness” and believe immigrants wont be able to assimilate 100%. They even discriminate against Japanese immigrants from other countries who arent born in Japan. Their population is declining but they are still against mass immigration. Plus no dual citizenship allowed

On the crime side, they have a 99% conviction rate and will NOT see it fall below that number. Plus no law for double jeopardy, so they can arrest and charge you repeatedly until they get you convicted. They also have unlimited hours in which they can interrogate you for and can detain you in prison for no charges for almost 30 days :troll:

Theres a reason for everything is all i got to say. Do extensive research and see if its a place you can really see yourself living in. Dont just base it on surface level optics.

Japanese people have vids talking about how much they hate Japan. about how ostracized and secluded they feel in their own country. How unhappy, emotionless and pressured their people feel. They don’t even like foreigners in their country bc they are very non-inclusive to outsiders. And you’re allegedly black talking about how “great” it is - just stfu and nooooo.

All that comes at a steep cost: working yourself to death with minimal time off.

You ain't about that life

Edit: as a tourist though it's fukking amazing :wow:
:gucci: Japan has one of the worst cultures. They are extremely racist, their economy is closely linked to violent organized crime, society is extremely hirarchical and conformist, and companies literally work their employees to death.

These are factually incorrect statements and horrible stereotypes. Japan is barely even in the top ten for most hours worked both weekly and even yearly. The US does more work than they do and arguably South Korea and Mexico are the most egregious global offenders. Japan is actually doing slightly more hours of work than Canada, which is typically viewed as a good work-environment country.

Those japan stereotypes were born from anecdotes, not stats.:francis:

I used to think the same until i was corrected by an actual Japanese person. They actually find this kinda offensive, similar to how Js dont like money stereotypes or we dont like crime stereotypes.:yeshrug:

I worked with Japanese people and they were not allowed to go home before their boss did, regardless of wheather or not they had things to do. One guy was send to Germany to learn German. He had to spend all week in classes and then do his office work on the weekends. It almost ruined his marriage because his wife had to spend all her time alone in a fukking hotel room. They even have a word for dying from working too much: Karoshi, and Hotlines for suicidal overworked employees

Japan seems dope and I look forward to visiting the place since it’s on my bucket list this decade but I don’t know about living there tho….I don’t think even anime can convince me otherwise lol. Tokyo may be diverse by Japanese standards but I refuse to live in a mainly non-black homogenous society. I’d much rather live in Costa Rica or Panama instead despite knowing only some Spanish (at the Dora The Explorer level).
