The only memorable classic songs on most any classic or album in general are the singles unless a person's a fan of that album. There's a lot of people who like "Zealots", "Family Business", and "How Many Mics" as much if not more than the songs that are singles. In fact, "Zealots" probably has Lauryn Hill's most quoted lines.
Country Grammar isn't as praised because it lacks the impact.

No this isnt the case. Those fugees songs never caught praise like these non single songs i'm about to list: Aint no fun,the shiznit,AMBITION AZ A RIDAH,NO MORE PAIN,never change, take over, u dont know, heart of the city,MO MURDA,MR BILL COLLECTOR,(ORIGINAL) CROSSROADS,BUD SMOKERS ONLY,me and my bytch, machine gun funk, gimme the loot,HEAT,BLOOD HOUND,PATIENTLY WAITING,bristol hotel,my rhyme aint done,kanday,..... nikka U GET THE PICTURE?
Aint nobody bumpin that shyt you named now nor were they back then. I was 17 back then, living that young nikka shyt riding around windows down bumpin, discussing hiphop daily. Them songs WERE NEVER poppin ever!!!!
It's a whole selection of Stevie songs people know. The average hip hop fan can't even name any other Fugee songs besides those 3 and they're considered "legends"
Fugees get the props they deserve. They dropped a dope ass album that blew the fukk up. Its a classic and has a number of classic both single and album cuts and is rightfully recognized as a classic.
They only dropped one album, then disbanded, as a result they probably aren't on anyones top 15 rap groups list. Their break-up stands out because they was so large at the time. Alot of rap groups dont have any classics but people stay claiming them as top 10 rap groups.
The Fugees are rated pretty much perfectly for what they achieved, a short lived rap group that blended hip-hop, rnb and reggae perfectly and created a classic album in the process, and then went their separate ways. classic albums are not easy to create. it seems pretty pointless to even argue at this point. if you dont like their music, you are entitled to your opinion, but just because you never felt them doesn't mean other people never did. and its alot of people out there who enjoyed the fugees while they were together

All I'm saying is I don't know how many times I've seen people's faces go from "the fugees were one of the greatest of the 90s, they're one fo the legends to come out " to "name another song other than ready or not? umm umm ex-factor?"
Just saying I think they're overrated.
But I forgot I'm trying to plead a case to the same coli nikkas still trying to claim 50 Cent is relevant
No shock or troll thread but the Fugees are the most overrated group in hip hop ever.
They had a trash debut album that you can't name one track on. Their "masterpiece" only had 3 songs anyone ever fukked with (Ready or not, killing me softly, fu-gee-la). And on top of all of that the two biggest singles were remakes (classic remakes I will add though).
The icing on the cake for me was when Lauryn made her solo album then dissed her 'New Ark' musicians who really helped craft the album and couldn't make another one by herself so she went m.i.a.
Now we're left with Pras on a milk carton, Wyclef doing gay motorcyle calendars, and Lauryn about to go do that bid.
nah. that title is held by outkast. but the fugees are the runner-ups.
and for those of you that dont see how theyre overrated. youre buggin. do you not see how theyre held in the highest regard by the media and how the red carpet is always rolled out for them? do you not see how whenever theres a documentary or a '90s video marathon, they dedicate a whole testament to them as if they were really vital to hip-hop?
and for those that think they dont appear on anybodys list, are you not aware of that mtv2 special where they ranked the fugees in the TOP TEN!!?? yes the top 10. and that was the only group list ever done by the media. i dont recall a group list by any other entity. not even publications.
Agreed and I would like to add that it's not even a Hip Hop album. There some Hip Hop, R+B and reggae on there. It's definitely a multi genre album which is one of the reason it sold so many units (roughly 20 million). You had multiple demographics buying it that wouldn't normally just buy a rap album. The program director from Hot 97 said on the Combat Jack show that the album took off on the strength of killing me softly which is R+B/Soul.
On a side note I would have loved to hear The Desert Set on it instead of The Outsidaz.
yea thats where theyre overrated. theyre not even overrated for hip-hop purposes, which makes it worst. the majority of their appeal is r&b.
outkast is in that same boat too, to an extent. i'll say that outkast is more overrated because they didnt have the impact & popularity that the fugees had.
