You knew the standard for good service was a minimum of 15% before you left the house. If you cant afford to eat out then stay your ass at home.
I usually tip 20% but the whole expected tip thing is annoying. It's simply the owners way of passing the cost of doing business to the customer. If I ever opened a restaurant I would make it a policy that there is no tipping allowed by paying a higher wage to my servers like a country club. Granted there are servers who would probably prefer the tip way especially pretty females. But this is why I won't be opening a restaurant any time soon.

once i was in boston, went to some kinda shytty place around 10 and the bartenders like "dollar beers guys". so i went up, toss him 2 bucks for a draft. go up the next time n toss him a buck. bartender looks at me like
, then my friend goes up, says 'yo bartender said' if you dont tip again ur outta here'

You are not legally obligated to tip, it is not mandatory.
Dudes are shamed and brainwashed into tipping, why not too everywhere you go, a old woman working at McDonald's needs it more than a 22 year old waitress.

My local spot owned by friends have a dollar beer night, when I go I usually run a tab and tip at the end or I will get 4 beers at a time and tip 1. Either buying a round or buying me and a friend 2 each then he gets the next
Running a tab is the best way to go though, rack up them dollar beers to 10-15 throughout the night, pay the tip at the end so you don't feel bad ordering 10 $1 dollar beers and not tipping 10 times in a row

Thats another thing that pisses me off waiters have to atleast work for the tips but bartenders you have to tip just for them to do the job. If it's crowded your going to give him a big part of what you were gonna tip them right off the bat so they come back to you in a timely fashion so i'm basically tipping just to get the privilege of standard service.
