None of this would even be an issue is the word "classic" hadn't been thrown around. If this album was just allowed to exist in it's own space and be judged on it's own merits without having to bring past albums or other stupid shyt like that in the mix, It would stand alone as what it is, a good/decent album.

By putting that stupid fukking word int the mix, you now have stans who won't rest until it's seen as a "certified classic" and is comparable to any and everything, and haters who won't rest until they make every excuse for it not to be considered as such. It's a good album, end of fukking story..

I'm sorry but it's a classic. Compare it to the rest of these, "Albums" that came out recently and it shines. It's a rare album that you can enjoy all the time. Classic status.
This right here is the problem. You're inflating it's status because of everything else that's out. People are sitting here giving this album the same ratings as Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt, etc. I'll say this, I bumped this album heavy when it came out, it's literally the last hip hop album that I purchased, but there is no way I can call it a classic. There are too many skippable moments and times where he just loses my attention. Backyard Freestyle was just a bunch of aggressive yelling for no reason, I fall asleep every time Sherane comes on and the Art of Peer Pressure lost its effect after the first month, that is not a classic storytelling track. The original beat sounded better than the one he told the story over as well. "Real" has the most annoying hook since Reminder. Swimming Pools is carried more by the production as it overpowers his voice. HOWEVER, Sing About Me was the song of the year.

It was a very good album, that got partially overrated because no one in the mainstream was coming from that angle. Let K. Dot breathe, I like what he brings to the game.

I can't help but feel people needed a hero so they crowed this kid as what Lupe was supposed to be. Meanwhile, they forgot that Lupe was better than this guy at every single aspect of rapping.

Thread should have ended there.

The majority of people have a hard time, or are completely incapable of, looking beyond themselves. The majority of people are completely blind to the biases they apply to their everyday life. The cats who sit around and say GKMC is in no way shape or form a classic will list the same albums from the same time period as classics. Cats are so biased and nostalgia driven yet completely oblivious to it. The culture dictates what is classic, time dictates what is classic, not a singular opinion that happens to get cosigns on a message board. If GKMC is destined to be deemed classic, it will be and nikkas can either deal with it or just press play on some Das EFX on their Sony Walkmans and keep it moving.

The problem is that people here are being force-fed that classic label, and it annoys them. It reaches a point where it just seems like an industry-wide push, and that all of its shortcomings are overlooked. I've never seen anything like it. But just look at this very thread and all the different angles people are using to justify its classic status and you can see why a bunch of people have the :rudy: face. "Yeah that song isn't great by itself or all, but in the context of the album I got to give it like a 5 out 5." "Yeah he wasn't spitting on that track, but the complexity of his flow at the current point = 5 out 5." What kind of shyt is....

Are there any albums in the past 5 years that's better than GKMC? I'd like to hear em. The list will not be long.

Both of Em's last two shyts were not classic neither was Jays solos.

TM 101 is not a classic, neither is Purple Haze. They weren't back then and they're not now.

Cac alert. :whoo::pacspit:

The album provides thought provoking content, great cohesion, great production, great lyricism, was critically acclaimed across the board, and the shyt went platinum in age where nobody (HipHop wise) is getting that plaque.

Man, that shyt is a classic and we'll be listening to that album 10 years from now.

:heh:
