Priest and Hudlin are the reason most of you even care about Black Panther today. It was there run that made him relevant in Marvel and not just another token 70s/80s "black" character.
All the world building of Wakanda that you all love is Priest. The tradition, its power, technology, the customs, inter clan politics, all of it is Christopher Priest.

So to look at this thread and have someone claim Priest destroyed the character, when everything you know and like about the character was CREATED by him is absurd. Priest made the lore and character, and Hudlin go to make action in the world after all of Priest's world building.

Coates and Coogler are nothing by white liberal puppets. IMO. They destroyed what took years for Priest and Hudlin to create.

Yes, that is exactly the point you're missing.

- if you don't own it, it isn't yours
- if your self perception, self esteem, sense of self worth is dependent on something that isn't yours...you will forever be a victim to those that own it
- you may be inspired by it, even to the point of making your own...but to be this invested is to be tinged with the infection that you are dependent on someone else's creation for your worldview
- and you will go through the motions of telling yourself you can go work for these comic companies to change things from within...and you won't
- you will hear these warnings from those that did the same before you...and you will not heed wisdom, because the nature of unfocused youthful energy is to think you are unique and your outcome will surely be different simply because you want it enough
- this is what comes of letting enemies raise your children
- this is the fruit of assimilationist thinking

Again, we don't own anything and yet we see our depiction of us as negative.

So yes, we don't own it, but when everywhere you turn you see imagery of yourself as less it weighs on your mental. That's the point. But I see what you are saying. I'm not dismissing that.

Like I said Priest made Black Panther the symbol for everything you are mad about.
I would trust Priest knows what he is doing from a storyline perspective.
I know for a fact despite what he says publicly, he hated the direction Coates took the character he and Hudlin setup in the Marvel Universe.
I think the fact that Ketema is blonde hair and blue eyed and T'Challa's son is in joke on Coates and Coogler.
That said you'll have to watch the storyline play out before crying.

Yep it was created by two white guys jumping on the blaxploitation wave, just like most black heroes like Luke Cage, Jon Stewart, and the like.

What you see popularized about Black Panther today was created by the two FBAs, the world by Priest and the action impact by Reggie Hudlin. They are the ones who truly integrated and set Black Panther apart and Wakanda as apart in the Marvel universe. They made the character popular enough where it would even be sensible to bring them into a movie.

That said I believe Priest was part of Milestone with McDuffie, where they co created Static and other Milestone heroes. That said McDuffie and Priest have very different political and spiritual beliefs, which sort of helped them make comics that weren't diehard liberal, they balanced each other. Unfortunately they contracted DC with right of first refusal for all non-comic offerings and DC made sure to keep them contained.

You are missing the point. All creations of blackness in major publications are white owned. Yet those images are harmful. Sambos, Mammys exist and have done irreproachable damage of blacks in this country. You are smarter than that. Stop it.
