Is this one of the best war movie ever made?

I am just watching this movie again, and I swear no war movie comes close. I have watched this movie sober on shrooms high off other things, and drunk as hell. This movie is phenomenal. I was 7 years old when this movie came out, have watched it through almost 3 decades now. And it still holds up in 2015.

I get there is a lot of great war movies, apocalypse now I really think challenges this movie. But every time I see Full Metal Jacket on TV, I just have to stop and watch.

A Kubrick Masterpiece.. :banderas:

I like the first half way more than the second

Never before or since has so much ether been spewed to so many people in such a short time.

Agreed. It's kinda almost like 2 movies in 1. Boot camp is almost like it's own movie, then the nam part. No movie is fukking with the boot camp part of this movie. :whew:

"Holy dog shyt! Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy, and you don't look much like a steer to me, so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dikks?" :heh:

The first half is why this is a classic. The boot camp shyt will never be duplicated. It's so good and true to the times. The second half of the film doesn't reach the quality of the first half but it's still decent, it just falls a bit into "generic war stuff" but it's well worth watching.

Agreed.

Platoon is actually my favorite war film. Personal classic.

BTW I appreciated the 2nd half of Full Metal Jacket way more after watching Rob Ager's film analysis of it. It's not on youtube anymore. :/

Goat flick, but seeing as teh best part was boot camp, I'd have to go with the other standards: Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Patton, All Quiet on the Western Front, Sands of Iwo Jima, Saving Private Ryan, etc.

I actually don't even think it's Kubrick's best war movie. Paths of Glory with Kirk Douglas is a better film to me. I do agree with the majority here and the first half is amazing and the fact that drill sergeant wasn't an actor really shows it feels very true to what a drill sergeant would be like.
