"Funk Flex has issued a public apology to RZA and the Wu-Tang Clan on behalf of Hot 97, after years of tension between the radio station and legendary rap group.

The New York DJ, who was recently named Creative Program Director of Hot 97, took to Instagram on Saturday (February 4) to share a picture him and Bobby Digital alongside a caption squashing the longstanding beef.

โ€œI WANNA TAKE THIS TIME TO APOLOGIZE TO THE @RZA AND THE ENTIRE @WUTANGCLAN !!! ALMOST 25YRS AGO THE GROUP, ME AND HOT97 HAD A DISAGREEMENT THAT TO ME NEVER GOT PUT TO BED AND I APOLOGIZE!โ€ Flex wrote.

โ€œLOOKING BACK AT THIS 20 SUMTHIN YEARS LATER.. WE GONNA MAKE UP FOR THE TIME WE MISSEDโ€ฆโ€ he continued. โ€œTHE WORLDS GREATEST RAP GROUP AND THE WORLDS GREATEST RADIO STATIONS ARE GOING TO COME TOGETHER BRING U SOMETHING AMAZING!โ€

Flex then teased a collaboration of some sort between himself, RZA and the Wu-Tang, before signing his post off as โ€œCreative Program Director, Funk Flex.โ€

The post, which tagged each individual member of the Wu, saw responses in the comment section from both RZA, who posted three Wu-hands emojis, and Raekwon, who wrote: โ€œNothing but love Blackman ! And thatโ€™s Reciprical !!!!!โ€

The fallout between Hot 97 and Wu-Tang Clan dates back to 1997, when the legendary Staten Island group were booked to headline Hot 97โ€™s Summer Jam at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.

Inspectah Deck alleged during the groupโ€™s 2019 docuseries Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men that the group were strong armed into flying to the East Coast on their own dime to perform at Summer Jam for free.

โ€œThe deal was, as far as I remember, you gotta come back and do this Hot 97 Summer Jam or weโ€™re not gonna play any more of your records on your station,โ€ he explained.

Reacting to ultimatum, Ghostface Killah proceeded to take to the stage and call out the radio station, screaming โ€œfukk Hot 97!โ€ while getting the crowd to join in with him.

โ€œThey didnโ€™t play our records for like the next 10 years,โ€ said Deck, noting that other radio stations followed Hot 97โ€™s lead. โ€œUs not being involved while they playing the Biggie shyt, they playing Nas shyt, everybody that was rocking with us at the time. That affected our sales, that affected our touring, that affected everything. That affected our presence.โ€

Despite the blackballing, the Wu and Hot 97 did eventually mend fences, with Wu-Tang playing Summer Jam in 2013.

Meanwhile, Funk Flex recently caused a bit of a stir when he promised to start putting 6ix9ineโ€™s music back into his rotation as a result of the โ€œtrendโ€ of rappers copping plea deals.

Flexโ€™s point was made in relation to an Instagram post from the rainbow-haired rapper, which saw him catching some Zโ€™s on a private jet while snuggling up with a lap full of money."

Hope this somehow leads to RZA opening up the vault some more. Floods or not, I know his ass sitting on plenty of leftovers, half-songs, etc. from Forever and before.
I still would like to know how that album that was recorded for deck sounds like

What a pointless apology :mjlol:

It's like MTV apologizing for not playing rap more in prime time, or anything else apologizing first when they become irrelevant.

I hope Spotify and them give all the cabs and Ubers free service soon to kill off these former gate keepers for good.

On the real, this whole Wu vs Hot 97 beef has always been over exaggerated to me. After that Summer Jam incident, the Wu was still getting played on Hot 97 so I never understood this narrative.

I don't even live in NY and the times I've been there, I know for a fact I heard Wu music played on that station. "Cherchez Laghost" by the main person who said "fukk Hot 97" got play, and Flex dug heavy into Wu music every time he did the '90s night... now if I visit NY a few times a year and heard the shyt, I can only imagine how much it was played on the regular.

And what is Flex even apologizing for? He wasn't running things at 97 in '97... wasn't like he was the one that gave them the ultimatum.
