I think I've gotten use to it at this point. I mean, don't get me wrong, he can be annoying at times. But some of his rants can be entertaining. I just take it as that and not as serious as other people do. Because what I've grown to learn or know from some DJ's within his camp, is that negative feedback doesn't faze him one bit. In actuality, he thrives off that. I think his dialogue/commentary is the best when he goes into his throwback mixes. Most specifically during his 80's mixes. Because you really find out how big of a fan he really is. When he breaks down the time period, what was going on in the city, which clothes were in, what cars were hot, what clubs were jumping, hottest song at the time, hottest MC at the time, etc he really paints the picture. And to me, that makes great radio imo

Yea, you right. NY and Cali are two different styles, society wise. And it has always been reflective on the radio. From the days of Frankie Crocker, Howard Stern, Don Imus, Mr. Magic , Red Alert, and Chuck Chillout, NY radio has always been about being aggressive/boisterous. Plus competition, especially back in the day, between radio stations/shows has always been celebrated (ie Howard Stern vs Don Imus, WBLS vs Kiss FM, Mr. Magic going at Red Alert and Chuck Chillout). All Flex did was take bits and pieces from the greats like Mr. Magic, Red Alert, Chuck Chillout (who was Flex mentor), add his own twist, and amplified it for the last 20 years. We never really had that big shyt talking DJ nor was the mixtape game ever heavy out here like it was in New York. Those on radio beefs, the DJ beefs, all of that is something that pretty much NEVER happens out here. I can see how New Yorkers just shrug it off or get used to it at this point. Even his rants at times I guess could be entertaining. I guess we are more laid back and I personally don't want to hear him shouting or beefing with some other DJ BUT it does make for entertaining radio, im sure.
As a DJ though he'll always get respect, hes very good at what he does and isn't Funk Flex by accident.

No problem. I mean granted, NY radio now is completely different from 20, even 10 years ago. It has change for the worse imo. But as I've said, Flex is really the only one left from the old generation of radio. And that gives him the upper hand over other DJ's on the radio because he can play what's hot now and go into what was hot in the 90's, 80's, and beginning of Hip Hop. Most DJ's on the radio, up here, knowledge just goes back to the 90's.We don't have any competiting stations or haven't had much competition on the radio out here so that explains it.
Power106 has been the only Hip Hop mainstay out here. At times there was 'The Beat' but they turned that into a R&B station after a while. Then KDAY came back out and that was Hip Hop but mainly old school. Same kind of deal with the rock stations, there is only one station per genre, for the most part. Where as Greater NYC and I would assume some of North Jersey has multiple stations per which explains the 'beef'
I appreciate you educating me on it, thats why I fux with your posts/threads.
