shyt hit the side of the backboard and the ball moved so fast that the directors figured it wasn’t worth shooting again. And not having a net helps sell the miss as long as it doesn’t bounce off of the rim

Because who is to say they would use that angle anyway when this scene was probably shot from close to his his face, behind the backboard, long shot of the whole court/crowd and probably one of him from behind.

the shyt just has to look believeable. This happens on TV all the time. Piece together a sports scene just so the finished sequence looks good. Like you’ll have a QB throw a ball into nowhere but his pose looks good. But the actual shot of the ball is some stock footage of a ball spiraling from someone who can actually throw a football.
