I’m sure Jim Ryan and all those other publishers are well aware of the failure rate of GAAS at this point. Its why Sony releases so many of them on PS Plus, they are collecting data. I feel like almost every month theres a debut service/multiplayer title on plus that no one talks about or cares about.

Out of those 12 GAAS title they’re releasing I expect maybe a quarter of them to be really successful, another quarter to flat out bomb, and maybe the last half to be middling success similar to Tsushima Legends.

The benefits of having a successful multiplayer games outweighs the risks. Ubisoft is going to die because they don’t have a popular service title.

Square Enix is being held together with FFXIV right now

Don't think Deathverse is closing down, their just changing shyt.

Yeah didn't care for DKO being a plus title :francis:

But yeah... if you can make a gaas that actually ends up becoming popular you will be rolling in dough. High reward... but whole lotta failure.
II could see maybe 1-2 being really successful, but 4? nah... 3 might end up mid..the rest will bomb.

This is what happens when you constantly bring out service games to a ADHD crowd of gamers in an over saturated market. Nobody wants to grind for 10 hours a day just to get a damn limited edition hat. Most of these games were on borrowed time the moment they hit the launchers. There's not enough time in the day to go through these games, when you can stick to the games that actually have a foundation from the get go:

  • LOL
  • CSGO
  • WOW (along with the big MMOs)
  • COD

Maybe, just maybe, its time to focus on going back to the basics. I'm talking a simple multiplayer game or a single player game with no microtransactions, maybe one or two expansion passes, and just unlockables.

Sadly, this will never happen because the gaming industry as a whole is greedy as hell.

Yeah, i actually agree. I still think multiplayer games should earn its player base by being full priced, complete games. F2P had a surge because MUA was up over the pandemic but we’re starting to see a huge drop off now which means all these GAAS titles just aren’t feasible anymore.

There will still be a few that squeeze through the cracks and become gold mines but the fact is, people are still paying full price for COD which means the demand is sitll there for premium multiplayer experiences

This F2P “omg 10m players in a week” shyt is all fugazi. We just saw the same thing with multiversus, it blew up for a couple of weeks and now its almost not talked aobut at all and i wouldn’t be surprised if its a year away from shut down status also.
