Gambino talented but Cudi is the better artist, don't look at the projects look at the creativity. It ain't even close.

Cudi is original and it's harder to do what he did.
i have to also factor in consistency. he and gambino pretty much debuted around the same time. man on the moon is indeed a classic album...that came out a decade ago. really cudi's fall off has been as bad as ye's-- probably worse. that doesnt take away from his impact or being an innovator.

Gambino switched his style up like 4 times and was biting Frank at one point (Flight Of The Navigator).

I guess some admire that he shape shifted several times until something worked but I don’t find it admirable.

Its insane how little of gambino's early catalog is actually good. Didnt he get, like, a 0 star rating from complex or some web critic on his first EP?

He got a 1.6 from Cacfork (Pitchfork) for his debut album Camp which was ridiculous considering its a really good album and you can tell it was a Cac who wrote that review because hebwas complaining about Gambino talking about his experiences feeling ostracized by the black community for being an uncool nerd (something we know has been an issue within our communities in the past)

He started getting really good during his “culdesac” period. Then he dropped EP which was solid. Camp which was dope. The Royalty mixtape which got him respect within Hip Hop Head circles. Because The Internet which is better than ANY Cudi album in both concept and execution. The StN Mtn/Kuai project which built off of BTI’s good will. And finally Awaken, My Love.

What did Cudi innovate? Humming isn’t an innovation and artists were talking about being drunk and depressed before he was

You're bugging, Passion Pain and Demon Slaying he got back in his bag. KTSE was fukking fire! He did not have a Ye level fall off.

Sure he had some whack albums due to him wanting to experiment but that doesn't take away how innovative he was and that Man On The Moon is arguably better then any of Gambino's albums. I think Awaken, My Love is fire but just off originality alone I have to say Cudi had the better album. Cudi may not be as consistent but he beats Gambino in every other area and that to me makes him the better artist. He is more impactful, more original, more creative and I could go on and on.

Cudi has wrote legit classic records for Kanye and has had wayyyy more of an impact than Gambino. The same way Kanye birthed a new generation of nikkas.. Cudi did the same (Uzi, Carti, Travis) all those nikkas are huge Cudi stans and have many elements of his style in their music and are some of the biggest artists in the game.

Not to mention Cudi has a classic hip hop album, arguably two and is more experimental and IMO a better rapper. I don’t even think Awaken my Love was better than Kids See Ghosts... although it had a bigger records than KSG
Exactly, all of this. I'm reading thru this thread like:dwillhuh:

Coli nikkas are so in the moment ass nikkas

Last song on his first album was cool

Rest of it sounded like an unsure high schooler

But uh, comparing Gambino to Kid Cudi is an insult to that man on the moon

Cudi and Gambino started around the same time but hella people have been influenced by Cudi. Cudi’s music offers more in terms of sound.

I don't think he's an successor to Cudi in any way. They got different influences as well. If we gonna talk about consistency, I'mma go Gambino even with the wave hopping.

if we are going to talk about influence and artistry, it's Cudi. If we are going to decent comparison, I'd probably compare Gam to Tyler.
