All Star
Okay, I might as well offer up all my thoughts about The Game in one post.
You put this guy's "best of..." against anyone in hip hop today? He'll go toe-to-toe with it. The Documentary is a classic. DA and LAX are very good, and The Red Album is very solid.
How many of the songs on his "best of..." are from the five mixtapes he dropped relating to The Red Album? Not a single one.
Kanye, Drake, Jay, etc. these are guys that WE WANT TO HEAR EXTRA MUSIC FROM. We feel that we want more; these artists have done a great job of making music with enough substance that we want more. Game? No.... just keep making albums, thun, we don't want to hear your "outtakes."
He killed his legacy with those garbage mixtapes in 2010/11. Yes, he did it for his fans and it was free, so I can't really fault him... but talk about overexposure, geez. We got five albums worth of Game albums for free, with bad mixing and horrible DJ'ing, so we don't care about him anymore.
Our biggest gripe, as fans, for the past 7, 8 years since he dropped was that he name drops too much. So what's he do? Name drop some more.
I fukk with Game, don't get me wrong, but his manager needs a slap in the face for letting him release so much (potentially good) music with terrible mixing/mastering/everything. And he needs a slap for continually name-dropping.
understandable. the way i see it, people were already "not checking" for him after the long wait from lax. he lost a lot of the popular rap fanbase. as a result, he released all that free music for his core fans. held us over while interscope finally stopped fukking around and released r.e.d.
and i could easily make an 80 min cohesive mix from the songs he released before r.e.d. that would shyt on just about any album released in the last few years in mainstream rap save a few albums here and there. but i doubt people would even give it a chance

....but now that Im thinking of it, these were obviously all throwaway tracks he had sittin around collecting dust. Not to mention there was absolutely no concept for either one of these tapes..
