Ironically, Ras Kass making that hilarious video with him and his boys spitting out bullets- with little mexicans making the throat slice motion, (that got shared a gazillion times) was what actually finished him

Before that- Drake was just a goofy spitting struggle bars on Flex radio show, but having a shorty legitimize him "spitting off the blackberry" introduces him to a wider "female" audience as well as starting his "viral" presence with a new generation.

He had just came home from his 2nd jail stint right before this and was dropping some decent music. By this time he had already accepted the fact that he would be commercially viable.
