most games only do it through generations like when the ps2 gtas stopped using whatever engine it was using and started using euphoria.
but no, most games nowadays use the same engines over and over and just modify and update them. Its way more cost efficient, you used to be able to make a new engine for every game like rare did in its prime, but games cost too much to make to do shyt like that anymore.

It plays the same exact way. Of course the graphics are better
I think @JLova made a thread about this last year. He hadn't played Madden for a couple years, bought 16 and it plays the same

No it doesn't bruh, the game play doesn't play close to the same way
If he hasn't played madden in year how would he know, between 14 and 16 a entire new engine was created and a lot of features the community ask for came back. shyt doesn't play close to the same. 
But u dudes want story modes in sports games, y'all can keep that trash

No CB vs wr interactions
No DL vs OL interactions
No penalties
All qbs had the same motions and u can had no control over exactly where and how u wanted to throw the ball
Etc.
But ok Bruh. What u wanted them to change? it's not even the same dev team. U want a story mode?

Battlefield got a new engine between 2 and 3 I think.
There really is no such thing as a "new" engine in modern game development.
Everything is iterative these days. Engines are too expensive and time consuming to build for the ground up.
