Gaming with no audio, anyone else do this?

for the past couple of years i've been listening to podcasts while i game.
i turn the game audio completely off and listen to people talking.

i bring this up because i just started playing Metro Last Light again, i had only played it for about an hour about 6 months ago. when i first started playing Metro i kept the audio on. it was very rich and actually integral to the game play.

with just about every other game i could get by with reading screen caps but with Metro i feel that i absolutely need to hear the game....this fukking Russian dude talks so much during action sequences that i can't look away from the action to read his gibberish.

red dead redemption actually let you stream music on your ps3 while you played the game. It was one of the only games that let you do that.

i'm guilty as well when it comes to that.

headphones that support or replicate surround sound are a huge advantage while gaming....i can "spot" an enemy by sound with good headphones.
i be getting head mad in multiplayer because i pay attention to sound and it gives me a huge advantage.

I do that with gaming and movies these days. I like listening to music so I just throw the beats on and just play... In the case of movies, I just find something on Netflix, throw the closed captioning on, and watch/browse the Coli.

i had those, i have the Golds now...either way, you are still handicapping yourself if you are playing an FPS or TPS.

if you are playing Street Fighter it don't matter.

I don't turn the volume on the game all the way down, but I will turn the ingame music off, and listen to my shyt. I usually only do that with sports/driving/fighting or strategy games

lol at dudes using multiple headphones to pull this off. I'm glad the PC has no problem playing and mixing audio

but I usually prefer to hear the ingame music in any kind of immersive narrative game
