Exclusivity what ifs are dumb.

Im more what if the Dolphin came out?
What if Sega Saturn hit in America like it did in Japan?
What if esports didnt get over leveraged in to crypto and actually caught on with the masses?
What if Blizzard didn't fumble Overwatch, Diablo and their company structure at the same time?
What if Xbox didn't buy Bethesda?
What if Nintendo bought Squaresoft? Or Sony bought SquareEnix?

What if Thrill Kill was released instead of reworked into Wu-Tang Shaolin Style.

What if Fable actually did everything Peter Molyneux claimed it would?

What if EA Big kept going?

What if Sega never dropped out of the console wars?

Given the way EA was going at that time EA Big was still dead, NFL Street & FIFA Street got 3 games in 3 years, NBA Street was declining. EA was pumping out slop, pushing realism, and the leagues were caring how their games were presented.

Sega is an interesting one, the US vs Japan beef really fukked and would last for what seemed Like forever. Maybe they partner with a Xbox for a codeveloped console as Sega was in no position to call the shots to their only lifeline to stay in the wars. I think ultimately it would have failed cause Sega burned so much goodwill with the add-on phase.

  • What if Final Fight stayed a sequel to Street Fighter instead of SF2.
  • What if SF3-Third Strike was successful
  • What if Earthbound 64 actually released during the N64 era.
  • What if Darkstalkers Resurrection passed the Capcom test.

Yeah, big facts on EA Big. The last batch of EA Big games was a big dropoff, except for SSX imo...that last one where you could roam the mountain looking for scraps was heat! But everything else got weak after their part two's. I remember the Dej Jam Vendetta follow-up (it wasn't called Vendetta anymore) being a huge disappointment. It'd be cool if instead of closing shop, they recalibrated and tried some new things.

The add-on phase definitely hurt. 32X was a waste of time. If I remember right, the pricing was bad for Sega Saturn too. Playstation was cheaper on drop and throw in N64 splitting the market up. Plus Nintendo and Sony both had deeper libraries. The sad part is Dreamcast is an all-timer system imo. It had the first online play I can think of (Phantasy Star Online being the big one), and a bunch of really original titles like Toy Commander and Seaman, which is the weirdest shyt ever. It had dope RPGs like Evolution and the best fighting games too.

I never knew this! And I was obsessed with beat em ups.

It blows my mind that Earthbound didn't have more sequels.

On the fighting games tip, I wonder what'd happen if the Killer Instinct didn't take a massive break before dropping part 3 on the Xbox One.

What if Microsoft doesn’t give Bungie a hard deadline to have Halo 2 ready by November 2004? Without that hard deadline there’s no crunch which means no improperly tuned legendary difficulty, the story gets told & finished the way they want to, and the people who burned themselves out don’t go through that. Does that mean no Halo 3? Maybe Bungie without said burnout is cool still working on halo games.
