i learned that you gotta trust your gut. When a chick gives me an explanation for something, deep down i think we can all feel when it's BS. If i feel like it's real, cool, but if not, i don't give the benefit of the doubt anymore. And sometimes the excuse is factual as far as events are concerned but still BS as far as intentions and sincerity is concerned.
