Rappers are way more versatile these days. They can sing poorly and then rap poorly and people will love it
I mean, I thought Lil Wayne post 2006 was not good and caused a lot of regression, but thats just me... Chief Keef would probably be considered a millennial influence too (I understand the gap between those born early 80s and mid 90s, but still technically considered same generation when talking about this).. Future too, hes a millennial anointed legendWho did we choose as legends who were bad for the game?
Gen Z rap is god awful to me, but I do agree with this. They can make songs about these topics without sounding preachy or corny. Something Nas can't seem to do![]()
Do you bring up Joe Budden music as the standardThey sound corny as hell to me,and don't even seem authentic to me about being depressed or suicidal, seems like its just a "emo/depressed" sub genre in rap these days. Its like they rap about those topics just to have some fake "substance". None of them will ever drop anything like the Mood Muzik series
. Please don't get it twisted,I've enjoyed ALOT of gen-z hiphop. But the thread says "current" rappers so I'm guessing it means past 3-5 years as opposed to 2008 and beyond. They have alot working against them thats out of their control. Like the fact internet has pretty much created one unified persona. Where if these nikkas don't look alike, they rap alike,or think alike. The death of the persona has been a deathblow to hiphop imo. In the past we had great personalities and characters, and they were able to translate that into their music. There was a level of authenticity there ,because either thats who they really were,or just because they had talent to make you feel they were through their music. The "unified persona" that the internet has created, makes most of these new dudes personas, boring and cliche
. Rap/hiphop is dead for the same reasons wrestling and most everything else did. And you could say its just because I was younger, but there I've still seen some great hiphop personas in GenZ,just not very many imo.
that's because most these rappers harmonizing ain't really nice like that. they are force to go that route to disguise their below average bars. With all due respect OG nostalgia got u misinterpreting what I said
I never said 90s rappers styles weren’t versatile
I simply stated the versatility for individual rappers has evolved, 90s was 30 years ago. Rappers can harmonize with beats and spit 16 bars, they flow on pop beats and drill beats it’s actually a sight to behold
I think the 4K videos and big budget videos helped this era of rappers it’s non stop partying and funSeriously
I don't think people actually like the new music
I still love stuff from 1993
From 1983
Outside of Hip Hop, songs last for decades. Some songs will last forever perhaps
But even among the "fans" of the new music, the biggest tracks from last year are totally gone by now.
If you tried to play the biggest hit from 2010 in 2021 people would revolt. They would be offended
So all these so called hits just magically become wack after 18 months.. Tekashi says out loud that his music is trash but his videos are fire.
That fool was the top artist for like a whole year. "Hit" after "hit". A big ass pile of trash
Or maybe your food doesn't taste as good as you think it does
Do you bring up Joe Budden music as the standard![]()
Joe Budden was not good at making musicNo,I just thought Joe Budden was great at that type of music in his era. But even he wasn't respected.
So what makes you think we about to respect these less talented, little weirdo emo nikkas of today?
