Gene was probably oblivious to it all at least the last 5-7 years of his life. Her being filthy is what got her in the end. How the hell are you getting in such close contact with rat droppings? Insane.

Clean up effort for all of this probably isn’t fun at all. She was old, her was even older so they couldn’t maintain that house and definitely not the larger property. The recluse thing had the help just tending to the stuff outside the main house, meanwhile the whole main crib was a disaster

There is no excuse to live in squalor and filth as a wealthy person..
They said she did all the cooking and cleaning, but in a large property at an elderly age she obviously couldnt keep up.

They could easily afford helpers, makes so sense theyd choose to live in total solitude and isolation.
