Eh, the US government, ruled by both parties, and even some news organizations have been carrying water and excusing their abuses for years because it's the general US policy to do so for geopolitical realpolitik reasons. I understand it's more personal since their journalist was killed but the only difference with Trump is he says the quiet part loud as far as what were willing to look past with the Saudis. Their only real complaint is just tact instead of real policy action against the Saudis for what they did.

Trump attitude isn't any different than previous presidents outside of "social norms " being broken .
