Hate to say it but this is one case where asylum seeking is hard to justify.
Domestic abuse and crimes by citizen on citizen are domestic law enforcement issues. Not an issue of government oppression or a widescale atrocity. Just having a shytty police isnt enough to claim asylum, imo, or else millions of US citizens should be seeking asylum in Canada.
Not every domestic issue solution should be "run to America" .
Aren't most if not all reasons for asylum a result of domestic issues?
I guess I worded it badly.
Typically when I think of asylum I think running away from either unfixable dysfunction in the moment on a widescale (i.e. Rwandan genocide) or government atrocities and oppression.
A terrible and sadistic marriage while terrible is an issue that needs to be handled by local law enforcement and if it's not being handled by local law enforcement, then you need to make some changes to your government and work for reform.
I will say cartel violence on the other hand, particularly in narco states, is more justifiable for asylum since in these cases the issue is so bad that cartels have taken the place of a completely inept government.
