Yep, alot of these huge, profitable companies STAY downsizing, or replacing long time, decently compensated workers with $35k recent college grads/interns. The company I worked for got bought by UP, I left immediately to retain my position with my long term employer in a new building, but a few of my close colleagues stayed on. Within their first year, they were offered pretty decent buyouts, with a nice check, and a decent severance. They voluntarily offer this, and if not enough people take them up on it, they start lay offs. The numbers is in the thousands.
