That would basically amount to being complicit in his election interference and would just be giving him even more power. And even if he DID shift the algorithm back and help Dems win (and I'm not saying that would happen), that just leads to a world where both parties are glazing Elon every election hoping he swings the algorithm their way

Van Braun and other Nazi scientists brought over in Operation Paperclip were completely defeated when the US government extracted them after the war. They didn't have the cards, so the government was able to keep a tight leash on their neck. They were negotiating from a losing position, they needed the US far more than the US needed them. Elon Musk would be engaging with the Democratic Party from the high ground. He would obviously make demands to move the Democrats closer to his ideology, and unlike Van Braun could easily walk away and continue supporting the opposing side. Completely different situation.
