Let's see...
In 08, I thought due to public pressure, Obama would have no choice but to crack down hard on the big banks and fundamentally restructure the financial system. I generally had way too much faith in the ability of the Democratic party at that time, like BarNone. I underestimated the resistance of the blue dogs and didn't see the Repubs obstructing THAT much at a time when the country was trying to heal from a near depression.
I used to see the legacy of slavery/jim crow post-civil rights movement as mostly just a psychological/cultural albatross while not seeing the full scope of how structurally racist policies manifest themselves.
I used to be your average "fukk them fakkits" homophobe until I grew up.
I used to be a Christian until I grew up.
I used to believe in spanking kids because that's how we were raised. Looking at the data and just thinking about it some more, I've changed my views and I don't think it's a good idea to beat kids.
I used to view hip-hop in very structural, rigid, mechanistic terms and not appreciate the full scope of aesthetics present in the genre. I was put on when I was a kid by older heads who saw Rakim, BDK, and G Rap as the holy trinity and always kinda had that competitive, lyrical, east coast bias that informed my approach to hip-hop. That can be good because you have certain standards, and seek out good music that the mainstream has missed on, but it's also a very rigid, closed-minded outlook. I even went through an uber-music snobphase where I listened to almost exclusively obscure mostly west coast independent hip-hop and hated on almost everything mainstream.. Thank god I broke out of that. Now I can enjoy and appreciate everything from Rakim to E-40 to Three 6 Mafia to Aceyalone to De La Soul to Rick Ross.
I used to be convinced the JFK assassination was a conspiracy. It still might be, but I'm not totally convinced like I used to be.
I've had pretty much the same views for about the last 10 years though.
I'm happy to say I was never a 9/11 truther and I never fukked with Ron Paul or libertarianism for one second.
