Geoff Johns Now Executive Producer On Batman Vs. Superman; Nolan Out?

Posted by:Matt McGloin, Editor/Publisher February 01, 2014 13:33 | Updated: 5 days 23 hours Ago

It's been pretty interesting following what seems to be a batch of changes on the sequel to Man of Steel. Following the initial success of the Man of Steel at the box office, what seemed to be more of a straight up sequel has now become something of a Justice League movie.

At one time, writer David S. Goyer even mentioned Superman as the first hero (i.e. not Batman).

Now in the latest press release, we see that Christopher Nolan looks to have been dropped as executive producer, and that DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns is brought on as executive producer on Batman Vs. Superman. Johns also served as EP on the Green Lantern movie and writes the Justice League comic book.

From the first Warner Bros. press release announcing the sequel to Man of Steel:
The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

From the latest press release announcing Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred:
Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

We also see that David S. Goyer is added as executive producer as Affleck's Argo writer has been brought on board for rewrites.
The new film is currently being written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer.

It's speculated that Goyer's initial script was more of a straight up sequel to Man of Steel (meaning just Superman), with Terrio possibly brought in for the Justice League elements.

Regarding the perceived departure of Nolan, he was against having Superman kill Zod at the end of Man of Steel, but obviously Goyer and Snyder didn't take his advice. It seemed Nolan was more tied to David Goyer, and now with a new writer on board as well as Ben Affleck, Nolan probably is moving on with his own projects.

"Batman Vs Superman" has a newly announced May 6, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

:pacspit: Now we know why it seems like they keep making dumb decisions with this movie.

Time for him to move on. Had he not been so adamant about keeping his universe separate from the rest of the DCU, they wouldn't be in this position now

"Nolan dropped"? :mjpls:

He wants nothing to do with this train wreck and doesn't want his brand "stained" with mediocrity

The way his "name" was removed from anything to do with Man of Steel once the reviews came in :whew: quicker than lightening :banderas:

Nolan out? Nolan was never in for the sequel. He was barely involved with the first movie.
