I guess I'd say it's a combination of both. I feel that I'm finally living my life at this age...mainly because over 20 years of that was spent in the school system/academia (12 years of grade school to high school...10 years of college...I transferred between three schools so I lost some credits here and there) so I didn't really have the freedom/independence that I wanted to. But even during those times, I was trying my hardest to do me, whether it was trying to do art, music, fashion, etc.
I've been surviving...but I can say I'm thriving now. I'm living in a new city, doing new things, meeting new people, getting into new opportunities, etc. I'm not where I would like to be...but I'm pretty confident that I will be where I want to be not that far down the line.
