They should make discriminatory dress codes illegal. I already have an idea how to enforce it.
You should require the businesses to give the customers a confirmation number of some sort if they are being refused service.
The customer can then take that number and go online and do a survery where they give there personal demographic information. Age, sex, religion.
Then people study the results to determine if a particular group of people are being disproportionally affected by a particular code. if the results show that to be the case, they lost their license to operate.

They used to pull this kind of stuff back in the clubs all the time when I was still a jit.

Anything to keep the spot from getting "too dark inside" because you'd see the other color walk right by with a nod and smile from the same bouncer whilst dressed in rags or the exact same thing he was riffing about.

Funny how that only worked as a young, broke scrub because as we grew and caked up then it was straight to the front, no queue, welcome in because they knew not to step but still it was a learning lesson because it showed the power of strength and how people in a position will leverage it to enforce their own agenda, but only as long as they think they can get away with it.

I absolutely HATE responses like this.

There is no place to be blaming the victim here. You’re acting like they saw a “No ******s” sign and showed up anyway. They made reservations for this spot cuz they wanted some sushi. They were looking forward to eating sushi at 5:15, only to be denied that at the last minute for no good reason at all. Getting upset over that is a perfectly normal and acceptable reaction.

Deflecting to the existence of black owned restaurants is pointless as well. This is ONE meal in this couple’s life. Just cuz they wanted to eat sushi for that one meal doesn’t mean they don’t support Black restaurants.

So they did all of that and still didn't get in. Curse them out, leave a bad review and take legal action after the fact. But standing out there pleading your case holding your phone out to tell us what we already know, is doing nothing.

I just wish we can have our own blacklist and avoid these places and spend money where we are welcomed

...yo:ohhh:

Someone thats good with web development on here needs to make a website where you can type in a name of an establishment, and if applicable; it pulls up a list of incidents of this nature.

People could submit entrances, but theyd have to link factual evidence of said complaints, and then they'd be ok'd by the website admin, and coded in.

Someone get on that, and i want my piece of the pie:ufdup:

Ignore me if there is something like this already

This is typical Buckhead. They do not like black people in their night life establishments. The bounces will try to find anyway to not let black males in their clubs or bars. They will not let you come in wearing ear rings and when you take them off they still will not let you in. Or they will come up with some other bullshyt reason like shoes or wearing the wrong collar shirt or pair of jeans

So the owner called them and apologized and trying to "work things out"

Atlanta couple feels Buckhead sushi restaurant discriminated against them

ATLANTA - An Atlanta couple told FOX 5 they feel discriminated against for being escorted out of a restaurant for a dress-code violation.

It wasn’t the dress code that upset the couple, who was asked to leave Umi Sushi before being seated. They said they didn’t realize sneakers weren’t allowed and were willing to respect that rule. The Colberts said the frustration and confusion set in when they were being escorted out and spotted what appeared to be another customer—in gym shoes— being served at the bar.

What was supposed to be a quiet birthday dinner turned into a frustrating exchange when Kaylan Colbert and her husband were denied service at Umi Sushi in Buckhead.

“I had been there multiple times. The COVID situation we had probably been about four times and spent plenty of money there in the past so this is supposed to be like a high-end restaurant,” she said.

Colbert said her husband has worn gym shoes to Umi without incident before. This time, they arrived early for their ‪5:15 reservation last Friday night, but the two were told to leave and never seated.

“As we were walking out though my husband noticed a woman at the bar had on tennis shoes and that’s when everything had gone out the window at that point because there are no rules here for some people, only for others,” she said.

Colbert’s camera was rolling as her husband asked the manager why a woman at the bar was served even though she, too, had on gym shoes.

“If you’re going to have rules they should apply to everyone and not just some people,” she said.

FOX 5’s Alex Whittler I spoke to the owner over the phone who maintains the dress code is posted inside the restaurant and on the website. It applies to the entire establishment including the bar. But he said he regrets the way the situation was handled.

“This was completely, 100%, an operational mistake on our end,” Umi Sushi owner Farshid Arshid said.

“When they got upset we should have investigated that,” he said.

“We’ve seen this on the news over and over lately. Nobody wants to feel that way. Nobody wants to feel like they can’t go to certain places,” Colbert said.

The owner agrees and said things will be handled differently in the future.

Arshid said he has contacted the couple to work things out. They said they accept his apology but would not guarantee they’ll return to the restaurant.

I just wish we can have our own blacklist and avoid these places and spend money where we are welcomed.

Exactly, next time these establishments want you out, don't argue. Just leave and let's make sure we never spend money their anymore. No need in making people who despise us richer.
