Breh, its lightning. It takes your nerves more time to tell your brain to process the reaction than it takes a bolt to strike. If you are "nearly" struck by lightning, you were never going to be struck. It just missed you. You cant shammgod lightning though.

Cities along the Gulf Of Mexico in general have the worst lightning storms. All that warm water of the gulf is a breeding ground for thunderstorms. Which is why the Westcoast never see's vicious thunder storms. Because the Pacific Ocean in general is colder than the Gulf and by extension the Atlantic(Gulf streams warm the Atlantic, causing that same effect that you see in the Gulf). That warm air rising from the Gulf creates intense humidity and intense thunder storms with plenty lightning. The Tampa Central Florida Area is the lightning strike Capitol of America. The hockey team is called Tampa Bay Lightning for a reason.
And Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, Biloxi are all beholden to the same atmospheric problems as Tampa Bay.

My Florida folk already know the bizness. Back in high school, lightning poles were installed in the ground all throughout the campus. Just chillin in english class and this blinding alien ufo light covered the whole inside of the class. Couple seconds later the sound from the lightning strikes hit. One of the scariest moments of my life.
