Oh c'mon man, it aint that serious. Facebook was always just a marketing platform. Did yall really think they weren't selling your info(browsing habits/interests) to other companies? People acting like their social security numbers got exposed.

It's not just about your privacy breh. It's also about sneaky manipulation of your thoughts that you're not even aware of that gives them enormous power, for instance the ability to tinker with election outcomes which now has been proven they have already allowed to happen, perhaps even knowingly.

The only good thing to come out about social media is folks airing themselves out unintentionally. :lolbron:I see it ALL the time especially from the so called "woke" folks.

I talk to family all the time, aunts/uncles/first cousins on a monthly basis. Second and third cousins on the other hand may only get seen once a year. Facebook allows you to be dialed in to family you don't get to see as often.
so does a phone.. by dialed in, you mean you can see pics and like shyt and talk randomly on comments.. i'm not saying you're wrong for doing so. or that facebook cannot be used for that

what i'm saying is, i grew up in the 80s... was a teen in the 90s... i lived a perfectly happy life, not caring if 2nd and 3rd cousins was having a party in california next tuesday.. circles was smaller... even family. you had family and you had close family.. you had people you know and you had REAL friends. and none of it required basically spying on someone's life from afar. if you wanted to know more, if you cared, if you wanted updates, you actually put some effort into picking up a phone and talking to them. you had to actually work at relationships with people or watch them die off

i'm not a fan of the 1500-5k "friends" and halfway caring about your problems, issues and life. needing to know everytime you shyt... or what you think of every damn thing.

just deactivate for a day.. i'd like to see everyone do it just to try.. or don't and still do this:

notice how much time you spend on FB alone. every alert you check.. everytime you sign in to message.. all the messenging all day.. how many times you scroll your timeline.. stop to like.. stop to comment.. stop to laugh at someone.. get upset at someone else's thoughts.. go look at pics... every time you upload a pic.. make a status... go back to read comments on your status... sit there and comment back and forth... groups... pages.... watch a video.. watch a live feed.... etc etc etc etc

all that to keep up with some people i reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally don't care about.. and i know this, cause without facebook, i don't hear from them and they don't hear for me.. so the only reason i even care, is cause they in my face (book) at the moment.. then i log off and forget they exist until next time

I haven’t had social media in years
All I can really say is from the outside looking in people are doing anything for likes and it’s disturbing

Everything you search for or look at is sold to companies , litterally everything about you is being sold on Facebook

just decided to shut my shyt down.. for me it's noticing the time i waste. reading the timeline, liking shyt, comments, my own statuses, pics, convos, messages.... 95% revolving around people i would not see, care about or notice in public, if i didn't have facebook

2018 is the last year for all that shyt really... i'm going back to the 90s where we actually knew people and did shyt together[/QUOTE]

While I completely understand where you are coming from with this, understand that the process you described is how many people cure their boredom. It’s not necessarily about keeping up with others. For me, I sometimes enjoy thought provoking debates with the people or that are worthy of it. It is a huge waste of time though

i believe that.. i've already seen the difference after deleting about 2k people off my list. maybe it'll change with the people i befriend.. but i'm also making an effort to disconnect more and enjoy life

what is it you are doing for them to be even focusing on you tho, OP :jbhmm:

This thread should've been closed after this comment. Anybody that's not remedial af clearly understands mfs been tapping phones, (Old school corded phones and cell phones now). Alot of these apps do, so whatever. It's on you if you get caught up (Not paying taxes, incriminating yourself and shyt online) based on what you put on there

The power of networking and business building on social media is worth keeping it.

If you only use it for gossiping and pocket watching, you've missed out on some of the biggest opportunities ever.
