That's my math major :to:

I have about 35k yearly in disposable income after my rent/car/food. My Navy roommate was a financial analyst for a Meryll Lynch and she's been hooking me up with all the tips. :wow: Moving to Japan soon and hopefully I don't lose my damn mind and blow money out my ass. Next year in when I'm debt free I'll be able to cake 2k monthly. I'm playing my cards right in the Navy...planning getting my Masters. 6 figure life before 30 coming soon brehs...:lupe:

Everything was cool until you said "don't worry about your interest rate". Interest rate is important especially if you're telling them to pay the minimum. Know your interest rate and be mindful of how much of your payment is going towards interest and how much towards principle.

When i realized that majority of my payment was going towards interest, I built my credit up by making sure everything was paid on time and then took advantage of 0% balance transfers.

Capital One has been my best friend for the past couple of years. ALWAYS sending me 0% offers and I'm taking full advantage. I have 10k left of credit card debt(was once 20k) and I'm 0% on the whole 10k for the next 16 months. Once that's up (given I hadn't paid it off), I'll slide into a new offer because my credit has become that good.

Never make a late payment if your life depended on it.

Debt is slavery brehs.....:mjcry: I almost got caught up due to the economic downturn back in 2007. I was making money hand over fist, partying my ass off, and traveling the world. Thethe downturn hits I took a huge pay cut at work which made me start to lean on the credit cards to get by. Next thing I know the CC company's cut my limits and raised my interest rates due to the credit crunch and my balances skyrocketed to over $70k due to fees and such. I briefly considered filing Bankruptcy, but luckily it occurred to me that with the amount of credit defaults at the time I could fly under the radar and likely avoid being sued and garnished. So that's what I did and it was the best decision I ever made. I am now past the statute of limitations on all accounts so I can't be sued by the banks and my accounts will all age off of my credit reports by the end of the year....:whew:

I've heard it's good and bad to pay off your loans too quickly. Making timely payments shows CRA's that you're responsible and also builds credit history. My credit score has gone up dramatically because of it.

I have learned that paying your bills on time and paying extra on bills really help your credit. I had 40k worth of student loans and was working a job with short hers. I would often get behind on my car payment and student loans. 3yrs ago I lost my job and was out of work for 6 months. Luckily I had a 401 act. to hold me over. I finally got a job after 6 months and faithfully make payments on schedule and I try to add extra money to each payment. A year later my student loans payments were cut in half ( I still pay the full amount). I refinanced my car but still pay my old fee instead of the new lesser one. I try to put 10% of my earnings into saving or at least 100 a month.
