Editor's Note: For those who have ancestry of indigenous people, the author of this post is not suggesting to celebrate the oppressor's of your ancestors, nor is BigScust advocating for those oppressors be celebrated by anyone at all. BigScust does support being thankful for other people or things that bring people joy. If you have indigenous history you have a right to be proud of their charity and values exhibited towards the pilgrims despite them not being afforded the same reciprocity by said pilgrims.
For those that dont:
Almost no one out here cares about the pilgrims and shyt [meaning their "contributions", not disregarding the indigenous peoples that were taken advantage of].
Thanksgiving is for family and/or friends and expressing gratitude for having them in your lives
Enjoying the day doesnt mean that you're celebrating how the native americans were treated. You can express disdain with that without being miserable
A little bit of gratitude and giving thanks to others can go a long way. The food is great, the sports are great and life is too short to not give some sort of effort of enjoying the few days we are actually able to enjoy.
There are plenty of other days to wallow in misery and lament about the unjust ways that this country was built on. I empathize with that but strongly suggest people do the best they can to put that aside on holidays and try to smile or otherwise be content.
Very few people are going to value you more for not celebrating thanksgiving on principle rather than being festive and spreading cheer
