The intent here was to see some gory shyt. It's indicative of their overall mind state.
So comparing it to an activity that feeds people is a misnomer. There was zero benefit to the people besides getting to see the animal die an agonizing death.
Are they feeding the alligator cause it is a creature they are close to? No. If that alligator was in their yard they'd shoot the shyt out of it.
