Ya boy is gettn a new phone, and my knowlege of phones is :flabbynsick:

I'm just gonna be straight up, my tech knowledge in general is average at best, so why lie if you have a question.

Anyway Coli brehs yall always give the best answers and info so...

I have the most basic questions, so bear with me my niccas

Which phones have the best pic and vid quality? I'm talkin clear pics, and smooth vid.

Which is the best for the internet now?

What are a good amount of 'numbers' and 'measurements' as far as quality with pics, vids, and internet, should I be lookin for?

I don't want nobody tryin to hit me with "this has a trillion ____" for something on the phone that doesn't mean sh!t.

My tech skillz are :snoop:. I've mostly used computers and phones for the most practical stuff, so I know my questions are common knowledge to most, I'm just not the tech nicca.

Anyway which would you say has the least amount of Gov'ment spy sh!t on it too? Heard they all do but u'know.

Any basic apps I need, or any basic apps I DON'T need that they try to insist I need to try to run game.

Any basic thing I should look out for that yall know nobody really needs?
Is there anything I DO need that never gets mentioned?

Anything that can help, I would appreciate, even if u happen to know which phone GPS has the least time delay while givin directions?

Again, I had the same phone for a good minute and only used it for practical reasons, callz/ texts and pics.

Again not trollin or anything, just askin 4 your honest input.
Thanx in advance no matter what for any input brehs :myman:

What's your budget?

It sounds like you're not doing anything spectacular (typical phone shyt), so you probably don't need much. You can take that to mean you don't need anything expensive, or you can take that to mean you don't need anything overly complex.

If you want simplicity, get the iPhone. It mostly just works and does all of the basics really well. It's near or at the top of the class in video, pics, battery life, app support, etc. You do pay an entry price for it and it is not as feature filled as Android devices (downloading, media management, etc.) though.

If you want flexibility, go the Android route and get the Nexus 6P, Note 5, or the Moto X Play. These do everything as well with the added benefit of direct downloading to your phone, easier media management (just drag and drop to the phone), etc. The Note and 6P have been getting excellent camera/picture reviews and the battery life seems to be good on both.

Android opens up thousands of options for a device and can be a headache trying to get the best bang for your buck. You'll typically save a few hundred bucks over an iPhone and get a *subjectively* more useful device though.

I wouldn't focus too much on the gigaflops and terabits in the specs now. You'd be much better suited to look up tech reviews on specific devices (especially on the Android side) to get an idea of what to look out for.

I'll put this in a separate reply, as this is all MY opinion and not really solid buying advice. I'm not including Windows Phone at all as I don't think that platform is suitable for somebody who wants a fully supported phone just yet.
  1. Depends on your definition of best. iPhones take the most realistic pictures whereas the Samsung Galaxy/Note series takes the most usable (enhanced) pictures on the Android side. I like the realism vs. the artificial colors.
  2. Doesn't matter really. The internet is the internet. Both have the native browsers and Chrome/Dolphin. Some work better than others. Pick your poison. I find that I use multiple ones on every platform I've ever used (Android, WP, iOS)
  3. The only spec that really matters on the iPhone is storage space. 64GB is the sweet spot due to their storage offerings. You get a bigger battery, screen, and image stabilization on the plus version, but 9/10 you're choosing it for the screen size. On Android, you have to worry about battery capacity (more mAh is *typically* better), camera and storage space. On both you'll then need to consider other aesthetics such as screen size, build and etc. If you get an Android device, Fast Charge is totally worth it.
  4. Everybody spies, but nobody gives a fukk about you :heh: I'd lean toward Apple on this one since Google itself gets paid by selling various pieces of your data.
  5. Don't think anybody is going to be pushing apps on you. Personally my banking/finance apps are #1. The dedicated Facebook app on both Android and iOS is terrible. Use the mobile site, save your battery and thank me later.
  6. A lot of the Samsung features are gimmicks that you'll never really need day to day. In the same breath, the Force Touch on iOS is unnecessary in its current incarnation as well. I'd advise you bin the features in two categories "I HAVE to have that for doing...." and "that's pretty cool". Things in the "that's pretty cool" category won't be used a week after you have the phone.
  7. Since you seem to need simplicity, get a phone with a great battery and camera reviews. A lot of people have biases for OS or platforms, but get what will actually WORK when you use it.
  8. Either platform you use, get Google Maps. It's generally just as good on iOS as on Android.

My budget is pretty cool, I ain't ballin like Steph but I'm cool with my money.

the iPhone and Droid both sound good, but I think I'm leanin towards an Android.

My only question was when u said it can be a "headache" to get the best bang for your buck wit Droids, did you mean overly priced in general, or certain Androids?

Only otha question is does the Droid open up with too many options to you personally, or do most peeps u know feel the same way? I look stuff up like anybody else, but REAL PEOPLE give the best answers, and most honest answers, so I asked TheColi of course. :myman:

You helped a great deal already no matter what bruh :salute:
sounds like I can't go wrong with either phone

With the headache, I meant in terms of the amount of research needed since there are multiple flagships from multiple companies. Some are overpriced while others give you great value at a cheaper price. I've found that you can buy the latest/greatest flagship and still get a mixed bag in terms of what is actually as good as advertised. You have to hit those tech sites, blog reviews and here to get some real world perspective (like you're doing). For example, the Android 1+1 that dropped last year was a great device for the price, but slow/bad updates ruined the device in my opinion. Overall, it was punching way above its weight class, but at the same time it turned into a real problem when the manufacturer started dropping the ball.

As far as the options question, I'm real biased. I was on Android all the way back to the G1 (the first one) and finally switched over to the iPhone two months ago. I was a "root and rom" (install custom OS) guy so I loved the openness. It does come at a price though. As Google gets more ubiquitous, it seems to give less and less of a fukk about the overall the user experience. Once they get the phone in your hands (no matter the manufacturer), they don't seem to care about the experience (battery life, updates, etc.) over the life of the device. This cascades to manufactures who have no incentive to support or give a damn about your device after it's in your hands. Almost anyone (though not everyone) who's honest about their Android experience has experienced inconsistent performance, worse battery life, slowdowns over the life of their devices. Overall, I feel like the entire platform is a clusterfukk, but it is great and very much needed at the same time and I still love the platform :to:.

The only reason I switched is I found that as I started having less time to tinker and needed a regular phone, my patience wore thin for some of the compromises I had to make for the openness.

Like I said before, my word isn't gospel (and I can write a book for my iOS nitpicks too), so make sure you find what's good for you. I do feel like you really can't go wrong for your needs, but on the Android side you must get a premium tier phone to get the best experience.

Least phone to have the government spy on you?
My grandmother doesn't even ask questions like this

:beli: repeat the same joke as another poster, without givin any info or opinions like the other poster did brehs

I didn't mean like some nicca at the Pentagon personally watching me :snoop:

I was referring to hearing countless people talkin about it over the years, to the point where peeps was basically like 'every phone tracks you, just which one does it the least'. By goverment I meant in general where people say the same thing about FB, IG, Twitter, email, browsers, and so forth.
