become an Enrolled Agent and do taxes. That's what I'm working right now. In stead of wasting more money on school to become a CPA I'm working on 3 designations

Enrolled Agent
Certified Bookeper
Quickbooks Pro Advisor

You have to study and pay to take the exams but there are no education requirements.

I wish you well but there is no way becoming a cpa is a waste of money

Time is money. And with those 3 credentials you can make just as much or more than CPA's. And unlike a CPA which is state licensed, EA's are federally licensed. So you can move from state to state with no restrictions.

Being able to do well without your cpa does not make being a cpa any less of a big deal

Never tried to downplay it. The topic of this thread is called getting a good job without a degree. You need 150 credits to become a CPA in addition to 2 years work experience and passing 3 exams. You only need to pass 3 exams to become an EA. They are also more versed in and respected than CPA's when it comes to taxes.

Um no. A lot of enrolled agents use to work for the IRS. The testing is harder in terms of taxes because that's all you're being tested on where as with the CPA taxes only make up a small portion, and seeing you most people don't even know about an enrolled agent I assume you don't know what you speak up. In terms of taxes enrolled agents have the same power of CPA's

Bruh, I have told you about this misinformation. the cpa exam is 4 test btw

Whatever you're trying to do will not make you more knowledgeable about taxes than a cpa

For 1, a cpa can work as a tax advisor at a public firm where they will be doing taxes for Fortune 500 companies, hedge funds and individual taxes for the very rich.

Where would you get comparable experience from?

Only thing u right about is the 4 parts to the CPA exam. I meant to say 4. Ok so look up what an enrolled agent is, what they do, and what you have to do to become one and maintain it, then come talk to me.

Let's say both of us started out at the same time. U pursued your CPA and I went for the enrolled agent, certified bookkeeper and quick books pro advisor designations. Bye the tile you finished your freshman year in college I will have been finished and making money doing taxes and freelance bookkeeping. By the time you start your senior year, hopefully you're interning while already 2 years in the game. By the time you're starting grad school I already have my own book of business and regular clients during the tax season. While you're studying for exams I'm making money.

By the time you get your cpa I will have already started my own practice breh, and fukk it if I needed to I could just partner with a CPA if I needed to to handle audits and shyt. :manny:

Why would I want to be 10's of thousands of dollars in debt before I even start working when I can do it for cheaper and in less time?

You use to be able to take the bar exam without a law degree, now you can't. Now you have to go in debt for close to 100k just to be a lawyer.

Enrolled Agents have the advantage. They are not restricted by state laws, they have the crediblility of being federally licensed with the department of treasury and most of all they can compete with CPA's for clients. EA's are cheaper, everything else depends on your hustle and your grind.

And I'm not trying to work for a firm. Taxes and bookkeeping is a profession one can easlily freelance if that person is committed to perfecting their skills.

In simple terms, they do peoples taxes. And like CPA's they can also represent individuals and businesses before the irs for audits etc. they can command just as much as a CPA as far as rates. Unlike CPA's who are state licensed EAs are federal which means they can practice in any state with no restrictions. They only focus on taxes and to become one you have to pass 3 exams. Once you pass you have to go though a federal background check which takes 60 to 90 days. Once you get to you have to do 30 hours of continued educations each year to maintain the designation.

Most people don't know what an EA is which is the beauty of it. You can legitately compete with CPA's and tax lawyers for clients.

So, I've been working shyt jobs my life. I'm currently unemployed. How can I get a good job without a degree?

Elaborate on said 'shyte jobs' endured ? Also OP are you quite computer savvy? good learning aptitude in general? capable of independent self study? If so then follow the consensus in here & get some accreditaitons under your belt to enhance that CV of yours. So what part of IT are you looking into if you go this way? Has anything caught your eye yet? I went through several different parts of administration before I found my niche. Hell, even sections of administration/engineering are wildly different. For me, networking couldn't be any less interesting. I know it because I have to, but I'm certainly never going to apply to be a full time Network engineer. But when I started getting into more of virtualization and its closely related brethren (server, storage, deployment, and to a lesser extent networking depending on environment), then I started to get a path of where I wanted to go! I recommend pursuing Cisco and CompTIA certs. Very practical knowledge and handy when you find the right employer. Back int he days, I went into Cisco classes not even knowing what a subnet was for. It is a whole lot more than I had imagined but very interesting and beneficial for troubleshooting network issues which there is always a demand for repairs of such. Shoot if you end up really good at terminating fiber those guys make $150/hr or so.
