My old music teacher played at my grandfather's 100th birthday party this weekend and it made me realize I want to get back into playing music. I started with guitar but I think I want to learn piano. But life is so damn tiring now adays. Any older brehs find a way to get back into your hobbies as you get older?

Consistency is key. Properly mapping out your weeks is crucial. Time was a lot more abundant as a kid. It’s different now but manageable. Log every single thing into your google calendar at the start of every week. Start with repeating weekly tasks. And for god sakes adhere to it.

Getting older and experiencing the hobbies of your past, is like enhance steroids. You don't have no obligations, no other time but now, and what's holding you back?

Just start. Buy a used one for cheap. Obviously make sure it works. But don't fall into the rabbit hole of buying something new and expensive, especially on some sort of credit or payment plan.

Then for music gear it's easy to have it somewhere where you are frequently. If your guitar is next to the couch then every time you sit in the couch you look over and it's there. Pick it up, play a few notes. And if that's its. That's it.

You can do the same with piano. Even if it's just 5-10 minutes a day and in passing. As you get better and look back like "wow, I remember I didn't know the names of these keys" "I remember when I was looking up these chords, now they are second nature" and all the other things like right hand, left hand, both hands....you are going to acknowledge and validate your progress and you will want to invest more time on your own.

And when you get burned out, stuck, locked, don't revert to just not using it, letting it collect dust, go back to 5 mins a day and in passing.

Waiting for wifey to get out the shower, hit the keys. Waiting for the kids to put their coats on, hit the keys. Waiting for doordash/Uber eats hit the keys. Waiting for the game to come on, hit the keys.
