I could name 5 other people who'd it make more sense for (Luka, Trey, Lebron, Zion, etc.), but he brought those two up specifically as a shot and knowing how the white media would interpret it.

I think he was more so using of examples of players who went to big market cities and the hype and expectations that come along with it. All eyes were on that Brooklyn team to be the face of the league the moment that KD and Kyrie decided to go and only got magnified the moment they added Harden.
