It is a problem, because you're trying to make it seem as if he's having this great defensive impact inside the paint, when really the volume is too low to take anything meaningful out of it, given Lopez is the one anchoring that space of the floor for the team (whereas the shots Giannis defends inside the paint are more when he picks and chooses). In fact, Lopez defends the most shots in the entire league at 22 per game, and Giannis isn't even in top-80 in volume (12 per game), which is an even lower rate if you take into account he averages 33 minutes.

In terms of reps/volume, responsibility and impact he's behind both Lopez and Jrue. He has the luxury of coming and going as he pleases during defensive possessions. Jrue is the one who's typically guarding the best perimeter player, anchors their PnR defense, calls out coverages and is the centerpiece to all that they do on that end; Lopez takes care of everything inside the paint and works in unison with Jrue.

Giannis has the best defensive situation of any star player: he plays alongside arguably the best defensive guard, one of the best paint protectors, and some of the best defensive role players going around.

Now, that's not say he isn't great in his own right (most notably in weakside help defense and being a deterrent), but he doesn't have as much impact as the basketball public believes. It wouldn't make sense for the Bucks to put him in a position where he's anchoring that side of the floor because they need him to conserve his energy for offense, especially this season with Middleton out. It's not too dissimilar to Kawhi's defensive reps and responsibility diluting in SA once he became their #1 option - everyone was under the impression he was shouldering a heavy defensive load too, when those ended years ago, even before the injuries.

Next time your dumbass will listen.

This, coupled with playing with Giannis which has enabled him hide his other flaws.

Giannis doesn’t get enough credit for how he makes flawed players [Brook] look better than they’re. And all these players are always out of the league after leaving Bucks by 2yrs max. Bledsoe, DiVicenzo (should be out of the league in 2yrs), Hill & Matthews were unplayable when they left Bucks, etc.
Great post.

The Jokic/Doncic stan would juelz his way out of this one.

This subforum is very pathetic hence I seldom post here. Everything is always about parroting agenda-driven media talking points or dumb takes.

When you watch Bucks regularly - Brook Lopez is mostly unplayable most nights especially against teams with athletic wings hence Bucks always struggle against young athletic teams. And he’s useless against bugs that can shoot cos they always cook him. Muscala & Blake Griffin cooked him yesterday & Valanciunes dropped almost 40 on his head earlier this season.
I’m not gonna waste my time on a spastic jobless cum guzzling c*nt that sleeps on a forum whilst sucking off 2 cacs.

Brook Lopez was never known as a good defender even at the peak of his career but whimsically when he got old at the tail end of his career, he became a great defender. Obviously, simple logic (which is foreign to you) would tell you that someone is the catalyst for that. Apart from blocks which can exaggerate how good a player is defensively - Brook is mid. He’s not a good rebounder (for his size), he struggles against bigs that can shoot & guards run past him easily.

The difference between you & I is that I watch the games, so I can tell you the stats that are recorded or missed. And it’s not about where you’re from - it’s about interest. Aren’t Europeans dominating the NBA right now?

Clown yourself, brehs.

To be fair, they were 15th in defense last year. This year they're top 5 in defensive efficiency
They were 12th in defense and they were starting Bobby Portis at center stop it

The funny thing about this is, folks wanna make a big deal about how impactful Giannis' defense is by bringing up what he did last season (without Brook), but peep the team who was rated just above the Bucks on defense -
