Going by my treadmill I can top out at 12 MPH for about 0.15 miles, but can probably run faster on a track. The scariest thing would be if I pulled a hammy while sprinting away. That would cut my speed down to like 3-4 MPH while running on one leg, and doing a straight leg hop on the leg with the pulled hamstring. In an even race, an average human would beat a full-grown alligator easily. The maximum speed for a sprinting human is around 20 miles per hour, and most reasonably fit humans can exceed 10 mph for a short distance. It's possible that some small alligators might get as high as 25 mph for a short burst, but large alligators generally can't get above 7-8 mph.
Of course it takes time for a person to get up to speed, and it's quite possible that if an alligator takes a human by surprise, the human might not be able to escape
Lock this bear and that gator in a cage. Who yall putting money on?
