Aldon Smith is still apparently a hot property in the NFL, despite the linebacker's recent troubles.

Smith, who was released by the 49ers Friday after being arrested that morning, is apparently being eyed by several teams, according to Jordan Schultz of Huffington Post. Schultz specifically mentioned the New York Giants as having interest.

There is certainly a need for Smith's skill set in the Giants defensive scheme, given the uncertain status of Jason Pierre-Paul, who injured his hand in a July 4 fireworks incident.

Smith was arrested in Santa Clara County early Friday on suspicion of DUI, hit and run and vandalism after hitting a parked car with his own car and leaving the scene. After he returned to the scene, officers administered a sobriety test.

The incident marked Smith's fifth arrest since being drafted seventh overall in 2011.

Smith earned first-team NFL All-Pro honors in 2012 after racking up 19.5 sacks, but he has totaled only 10.5 sacks the past two seasons while missing 14 games.

He missed five games after entering a drug rehabilitation clinic in 2013, then served a nine-game suspension last year for violating the NFL's substance abuse and personal conduct guidelines.
