@Gil Scott-Heroin claimed Draymond could shutdown prime Kareem and Bill Russell but Randle averaged 25/7/7 on 53% shooting against him

The fact you still calling him a bum says everything. Damn shame the league hasn’t been able to stop this bum. He should be playing overseas or at least forced to the bench according to you You were wrong then & wrong now.

Take ya L & keep it moving
You're being too literal with it now. Nobody said there isn't a place for him in the league.

The average-starting PF would have been able to eat in the same situation going up against a team with a non-existent frontcourt, with a 40-year-old wing as a defensive anchor and no depth. Then playing against a Steph-less Warriors team, who'd otherwise be stuck in the lottery, also with a non-existent frontcourt beyond a 35-year-old Dray who could only do so much to stop the bleeding on that end.

Julius has had little-to-no resistance in both series', that's why he's managed to fool y'all.

At the time I thought the argument was preposterous but I am not entirely sure Gil said Draymond would shut him down, but rather guard him. Kareem would still get his. But perhaps not run wild and the Warriors would have advantages everywhere else.

Over the years I’ve slowly let go of a lot of the narratives and biases I’ve grown up with and found that Gil is actually far more right than wrong. He’s one of the few on here actually sharing insight into basketball.

Everyone else is cosplaying as Stephen A Smith or some wannabe tv sports personality. Spewing hot takes and trying to create gospel out of tiny pebbles of truth.

Basketball in 2025 is a complex game with nuances few people notice. It’s not the deliberate, plodding, isolated game that was easy to grasp 25 years ago by simply focusing on who has the ball.

Original argument was who'd win between -

1987 Lakers vs 2016 Warriors.

In 1987, Kareem was 39-years-old, and was a shell of his former self.
Ain't nobody said anything about shutting him down, just that the Warriors, as a team, with a Dray/Bogut frontcourt, could contain him. Worse defenders and defenses managed to have success defending him during '87. Furthermore, Cap would end up getting played off the court trying to defend the Steph PnR and it really wouldn't matter what he would or wouldn't do on offense.

A 7fter who's nearly 40 wouldn't stand a chance of defending out on the perimeter against the 2016 Warriors.

Then it got meme'd into it being "prime Kareem" and "shutting him down", when those words were never posted.

But of course, in typical Coli fashion, a joke then turns into cats taking it seriously as if it was actually said.

Kareem has the most indefensible shot in basketball history and was never the fastest person on the court as we saw on WinningTime.

But in 87, he suddenly forgets how to shoot the sky hook? :why:

But in 87, he suddenly forgets how to shoot the sky hook? :why:
The way y'all talk about past players it's as if they're superheroes, and not mortal.

The skyhook was not indefensible, and when he was 40, he couldn't default to it like he could during his prime. Why didn't he play until he was 50 then if he had the "most indefensible shot"? If it was so "indefensible" how come he didn't shoot 80-90% on it and score 50 points per game? It's not about him forgetting how to shoot it, it's about how effective he could be as a player.

And as if I need to reiterate, how do you think a near-40-year-old version of him would do trying to defend Steph and all the 3-pt shooting on that 2016 squad? You think that old ass version of Cap could last even one game defending the PnR on the perimeter, much less an entire series of it? How much energy would he have on offense at that age getting dragged out to the perimeter all the time?

You should grab a glass of wine with Reddikk and Bron and act like your superior intellect allows you to break down the game at a molecular level... :wow:

Anything would be better than having to suffer through the endless Lebron/Kobe/Jordan circlejerks on this fukkin abomination of a forum.
You have people on this board who judge athletes based on the look in their eye. You'd be hard pressed not to confuse the analysis of coli posters with Tarot card readings.
