Not the best example but you can catch some similarities here

It's obvious to anyone from Philly that Wayne was influenced by him.

He wasn't rapping like that in 1998.

Philly people have a distinct swag to them. I've always looked at it like Philly is a middle point between Harlem and Brooklyn. You throw those two boroughs in a blender, add Muslim influence, and you get Philly. A nikka from Louisiana just not gonna start using our lingo, our flows and our dress styles out of nowhere.

This is hip hop in a nutshell 🤣🤣🤣

Jermaine Dupri is trying to take credit for making it rain.

Asap wants credit for Air Force ones.

Tyga wants credit for snap backs.

Pusha wants credit for Bape

Stupid ass culture :scust:
Bolded is just delusional

B.G comes to mind when I hear this verse more than Gillie:comeon:

Wayne back in the day....he was trying to stuff 100 words in every sentence....ending his bars messy :mjlol: sounding country af

This the first song I remember where I noticed his flow sounded "East Coast". Bars crisp, flow clean and that southern accent faded a bit :mjpls:

Crazy thing is Get Off the Corner was recorded in late ā€˜99 when Wayne was 17… years before Gillie was ever thought of …and he was already nicer than Gil has ever been

It’s WILD to see people making posts like this in 2023…back in ā€˜06 you could almost understand how someone, albeit blinded by east coast biases and simple ignorance to the caliber of talent Wayne was, could mistake the inevitable progression of one of the most naturally gifted rappers of all time with something else….but given the privilege of hindsight this shyt is almost unbelievable…we done seen Wayne become one of the GOATs, flip a million different flows, try a thousand different styles…Nikka just renegaded Nasir fukking Jones barely a month ago…and muhfukkas still wanna attribute his emergence to some mediocre generic mixtape rapper that ain’t never produced a silly solitary notable verse of note in his entire career….all of this despite Gillie being caught red handed flat out lying about writing shyt that was actually written in the mid 90s (the Go Dj hook), when pressed on the record if he ever wrote anything for Wayne categorically admitting no he hadn’t…and all the way to today when in response to Stunna (the person he actually did write for) saying he never wrote not one single rhyme for Wayne, he didn’t refute any of it…but instead made goofy faces and doubled down with another new and hilarious lie about making more money than the owner of the most successful black owned rap label of all time :mjlol:

shyt is like the rap version of the ā€œwhite saviorā€ narrative in movies….one of the greatest rappers of all time needed some middling rapper that never produced anything of note of their own to be better

Truth.

It's common knowledge today, and it was back then.

During the SQ Up days, he flipped his whole sh*t when he got around Gillie. Ab-Liva was always with Gillie back then, and it saying it all the time, and that's how Pusha started up on Wayne stealing flows and rhymes. This is when the word was that Gillie was penning the bars. Gillie said as much in '04, but then said he got paid to "chill". Wayne was spending a lot of time in Philly and East Harlem from '04-'05. Especially around the time when he was trying to sign with Jay and Dame.

Fair enough, the push back to that from me at least, is pretty much due to the all the extras that’s been thrown on it

ā€œNYC/Philly rappersā€ is a key conflation … I’d argue that more than anything a lot of you’re talking about is parallel contemperous Jigga stanning … the influence nikkas be trying to attribute to gillie is really both of them doing Jay-Z impersonations

Swear all he does is make silly faces like this
Gillie.png
and laugh too hard at his own commentary. Never understood the appeal.

By extras I mean shyt like this…flat out lies…Wayne was putting out the SQ tapes back in like 2000-ā€˜01… YEARS before gillie ever was with Cash Money…had been switched up stylistically and had become a fukking rap savant
