A little oldhead history first. Bill Clinton got tired of herding cats trying to rally unions, labor, and other working-man organizations under the Democratic umbrella. So, he came up with the idea of the DLC. Cater to big business just enough to pull some votes from Republicans and your base woudln't have anywhere to go, so you'd net win votes. The problem is Clinton didn't calculate that checking out of the process was also an option, which is what happened to a lot of the liberal base.
And the worst thing about the DLC is that corporate america figured all they had to do was bribe the guys at the top to keep labor in line. So, lower level politicians suffered while the Democratic organization operated like an Authoritarian regime.
So, the Clinton administration marked the beginning of Republican dominance of US politics in the modern era.
Obama was the first chink in the Clintonista wall. Instead of playing it safe on everything hoping you don't piss off a bunch of white, pink-on-the-inside labor-only liberals, Obama threw up a finger to that whole scam. That's why Hillary hated him so much. He wasn't playing "by the rules."
Gillum just blew up the polls by focusing on DEMOCRATIC issues and not trying to appease a bunch of middle class white people who only care about who's going to give them the biggest tax refund. Literally, breh didn't even register until election day because all the pollsters just assumed it was business as usual; disgruntled Democrats stay home, Republicans show up in primaries and midterms.
I hope the whole party starts to figure out that Clinton-era philosophy is a monumental failure.
