My thing with that convo is that people ignore two factors IMO. One is that the Lakers barely scraped by two of those years. It's not like they just ran through the league all three years so just dropping any other good perimeter players wasn't a guaranteed success. Especially with Kobe at that time being so great on both ends of the court.

The second thing people ignore is that it takes a special kind of a$$hole to average 27/28 playing with Shaq. It took T-Mac getting away from Vince to really break out and show how much of a beast he was. If T-Mac played with Shaq I could easily see him being too passive to make the Lakers as much of a force. I think T-Mac had the talent but not the personality to be as dominant playing next to Shaq.
Impossible to say either way imo. Someone bringing up a real discussion that was taking place 23 years or whatever and having the reaction nick did is not normal. Or maybe it's becoming too normal as more and more folks are picking and choosing which parts or reality they want to accept.

Oh don't get me wrong it was always a discussion. Kobe even admits that was why he wanted to play without Shaq because he felt he wasn't getting recognized for his own greatness due to Shaq and because people like Ray Allen was saying he only looks as good as he does because he's playing with Shaq. Talent wise T-Mac is right there with Kobe if not more talented. Nick's bugging acting like that convo wasn't happening.

Reminds me of @Regular_P telling @DropTopDoc “if you wasn’t there in 1998 when i served the 1st McRib sandwich for McDonald’s in Saginaw then shut the fukk up.”
:beutusDamn:

Or like you telling @Trav about the first time you got on the Fry machine because @Regular_P believed you were ready after 7 years on the mop bucket

:mjlol: Nick can’t articulate himself. I personally edged Kobe during that time (like Artest), but it was a conversation at the time.

If it were some hypothetical situation with Tmac on the lakers, it would have still been tough with teams like the Blazers and Kings in the western conference.

Just like rap...

Idk man, maybe just that specific year they have a point. I was too young. But I have memory of Kobe in that all star game where Jordan hit the shot at the buzzer, Kobe was already looked at as a level higher than his opps. At least by me. Even iverson, we always said if he was Kobe’s height he’d be the best. But he wasn’t. Lol
1998?

I think folks talking about them early 2000 runs

My bad..you were asking about MJ last second shot he hit...

I thought it was in 03 maybe...
Was he with the Wizards?
Yup with the wizards. Gil was saying 2002 mcgrady might have been looked at as better, I was a kid but none of us ever really considered that. I can see why someone would have though.
