Here's what you don't get. Being ashamed of names like "Keisha" just means you'll hop onto a next wave of names that are deemed "acceptable", and soon enough it'll be another "black" name. See "Tyrone".
No, because trends in "acceptable" names lean towards going back to older, more Biblical and Victorian era names. Well-to-do families usually name their kids after other family members and such, so the names keep propagating. Yes, there are white peeps named Tyrone, but let's not act like that shyt is as common as the name John or Steve or some ish. Also, Tyrone is Irish and Greek. Black people just happen to be the popular demographic for it in this country.

Also, look at this ish... the top 5 names for boys and girls for the last one hundred years.

What people aren't understanding or aren't saying for some reason is that the REAL problem is that there is not a single thing wrong with "Black" names other than that black people have them. The issue is with racists and our current white power structure. White people name their kids some ridiculous shyt too and there is little to no stigma attached. The stigma that our names have is only there because they're associated with being black, which nobody wants outside of appropriating popular aspects of our "culture." Our names have not and likely will not be one of the things other cultures appropriate. From a white person's perspective, you don't go backwards or down to move up.

In other words, you have no alternative than to just do whatever it takes to fit in...regardless of how racist the system might be.
I suppose that doesn't surprise me.

Good luck fighting the system :russ:

Still doesnt change the fact I have family light as her without White folks being involved in any way shape or from.
The thing with genes are. You can have a white ancestor from 200 years ago and those white traits can show up generations later. It happens all the time.

The right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way
I have never see any african person decide to change their name. Nigerians and Ghanians get hired with their names. African Americans need to asses whether keep these names hinders or helps the community

Names like Kofi and Femi actually have meaning and don't sound/look as ridiculous as LaMarcus and DeVonte etc.

all names start off being made up

stop acting like there is any qualitative difference.....the only difference is one group of made up names is attached toward an oppressed minority so negative connotation will be attached to anything they do
