so then what you hear on tv is an californian accent, not a generic american accent...is what you're telling me?
Doggy, no need to turn this into a long arguement. What I am saying is simple: EVERYWHERE has its accent. Whatever generic accent Americans and their media wanna protray to the rest of the world is fine as a standard American accent. But every part of the country deviates from that standard to some degree. Some more than others. Some WAYYYY more than other.
I honestly dont see what's so hard to understand and accept, here.

Forexample, im Haitian, right.
- Most people hear would hear me speak and say I have a Caribbean accent.
- People within the Caribbean would recognize my accent as a Haitian accent.
- People within Haiti would recognize my accent as that of the Ouest.
- My father who is also Haitian has a Southern haitian accent.
- My Cousins husband, also haitian has a Northern haitian accent. THe minute he opens his mouth i'm reminded of it as i struggle to understand his creole sometimes
Yes , that';s right. Believe it or not even on an island that small (barely 1/6 of the size of Florida), different parts have slightly different accents. Even in Jamaica, 1/3 the size of Haiti, im sure there are slight variations of their accent as my homeboy who is from there can typically identify who's from Kingston and who's from remote parts like Tortola.
