To everyone in this thread.

The best way to do this is "Good deal or bad deal"

"I'm trading in my ____________ . They want to give me $__,______. Deal or no deal?"

If you're not getting at least auction value than the dealer is trying ot make money off of you and you need to ask for more.

or

"Check out this car http://__________________ , is that a good deal?"

Dealer usually pads about $5k into cars that they got from auction. I can tell you how much of that $5k is in their MSRP.

You got any advice for negotiating? I'm always concerned with the out the door price, but I can work backward to find what my target car price should be based on tax/title fees.

Use CarGurus to see what’s been on the lot the longest. Most cars at used dealerships are floating cars on floor plans (loans) and the dealer has to pay monthly on them plus interest. After a few months they own the car and it’s depreciation. They want to move cars before they make a payment on it. Because then it’s mostly profit.

If it’s a new car dealership with used cars it’s trickier. Some high volume dealers are more eager to move cars. While others can afford to sit and wait. So I’d target the smaller dealers next to the bigger ones.

With the internet these days you should be mass messaging every dealer in the Bay and as far around as you’re willing to drive. Pick 20 of them with the car you want. Don’t even go see the car until you have the number you want agreed to over email.

It’s a little easier to do when it’s a new car. Because they all have the same miles and it’s less subjective. You find the best deal on Edmunds or the Audi forums and ask all the Audi dealers to match or beat it.

I’ll see what other numbers I can get for you. Should help you make offers when sending your emails.

Manheim places that car with those miles at $11,500 auction price. That's in slightly above average condition.

The dealer has at least $3k-$4k (typical retail markup is $5k) in that car to move around. With that being said they do have to pay to have the car cleaned, transported, employees, keep the lights on etc. So don't shoot for $11,5k. But now you have a better idea of what you can haggle over.

And remember that the Sports package on the AWD version of the G37 is only cosmetic (wheels, trim etc). The RWD sports version gets the suspension etc etc.

I have authorized access to a major database as a gift from one of my clients.

This is good thing for a few reasons

1) you can see what dealers are paying for the car at auction. better bargaining with this information

2) you can see what a dealer will get for your car at auction if you trade it in. better bargaining with this information. I got $4k extra for my trade with this info.

3) you can just see what a car is going for at auction if you're trying to find a good deal and know someone with an auction license

It's best to just send me a link to an ad on craigslist, autotrader, ebay or your local dealer. But if not just give me the info.

ONLY ONE SPECIFIC MODEL YEAR.

All I need is

Year (required)
Make (required)
Model (required)
Trim (if available)
Miles (if available/concern)
Region of the country you're located in (Northeast, South, Midwest etc) for a more accurate price
- example (SUV's do better/more money in colder places than they do in Florida)

I'll do the first 20. No guarantees after that. some positive rep would be nice in return :jawalrus: but not required.
you still doin this?

I want a dodge challenger about 2012 low milage..:ehh:
V6? V8? SXT? SXT Plus? Classic? R/T? R/T Plus? SRT?

Best that you just link me to a specific car and ask if it’s a good deal. VIN is even better. Too many variations on the Challengers.
